I know: "your computer is really slow, have you done a clean install lately", me: "No, I haven't".
The reason: I don't have the disk, nor did I create one (I bought my laptop the week prior to moving to Singapore, there was so much stuff to do, and once I had more time on my hand, that blurb "Do you want to create disks now or later" forgot about the later and didn't show up anymore.
From good old Google and Microsoft and Toshiba I tried piecing together info on how to do a clean install, but no matter how much information, there are still gaps, important gaps that is; and I am afraid that once I start, I may be on a path-of-no-return-get-into-the-car-and-go-buy-a-new-one, no other choice left...
So what I need is a "Clean Install from Scratch, no prerequisites for Dummies" ;D. And would this change depending on the computer? Also, is there a way on somehow listing in a quick way all the installed programs, so I don't forget one - would that be equivalent to the list on "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel.
What I am looking at is starting out on the computer I would miss the least: the family desktop; move on to my oldest son's laptop and let him learn the ropes; and then dare touch my laptop. Can't ask my husband for pointers, his IT department at work does it all for him!!
Desktop: HP Pavilion 061, MS Windows XP SP2, 1GB RAM, apparently three partitions (C: 75GB, F: 5GB, G: 19GB), because I think there is only one disk in there.
Son's laptop: Toshiba Satellite A55, MS Windows XP SP2, 1GB RAM, C: 40GB
My laptop: Toshiba Satellite A105-S4074, MS Windows XP SP2, 2GB RAM, C: 111GB (sounds odd)
