I replaced my printer's ink cartridges, and now when I go to print something it goes into the queue and never prints.
Ideas?

Hi Andy
I will presume that the power is on on your printer and that all the connections from your printer and the computer is securely fastened. Also the printer cartidge's plastic cover for the ink to flow out is removed.
Then please try these few steps.
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes
Right Click your printer and check if some one has set it to Use Printer Offline. This will usually be visible by the printer being a bit faded in color as compared to the other devices in the Window. Also you will be able to see "Use Printer Online" option when you right click the printer. Choose that and you should be able to print.
Also check if "Pause Printing" is activated. If it is when you right click the printer icon "Resume Printing" is visible, choose "Resume Printing".
Let me know if the steps I have mentiooned above worked.
Cheers Faizul

Zul--
I have done those things and it still puts the document into the queue. Also, every time I turn on my printer it prints a test page.

Hi Andy can you give me your printer's model?
Your printer is probably having cache issues if it starts printing on it's own. You can stop this by following these steps.
1. Turn off your computer 2. Turn off your printer 3. Pull the power cord out of the printer 4. Wait for 30 secs to a minute 5. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer. If it still prints then you will need to wait longer when you take out the power cord.
The printer holds cache instructions in it's small RAM when you ask it to print, sometimes this information gets corrupted due to multiple request or some other form of error and pages get printed out of the blue.
By taking the power out you are draining the power needed by the RAM to hold such instructions so it will clear away any instructions left behind that was initiated by you.
Have you tried clearing your queue before printing again? Do you know how to clear a print queue?

I have tried clearing the print queue as well as turning off the printer...but I haven't unplugged it. I'll try that next--thanks.

one last thing to do is to actually reinstall thr printer with a newer driver. If you let me know the model I can point to you where you can get a the new driver and install it.

The unplug-replug worked. Thanks a ton Zul! This is a great site for SAS folks. Some of my students saw me on this and wanted access as well!
