When I come back from the States, where I have to use a dial-up connection, my laptop will no longer connect to my wireless network at my house here in S'pore. My laptop no longer recognizes that there are wireless networks in range. How do I re-establish the connection?

Hi Audrey, I need a few details from you 1st. 1. Is your wireless connection SSID (name of your wireless network) hidden? 2. Is your wireless connection with encryption, WEP or WPA? 3. Have you enabled MAC Filtering in your wireless network? A few basic tips would be to go into your router to find out this information. Your router should ave come with simple instructions on how to do so. If you have scanned available wireless connections and still have not found your wireless network's name then you will probably need to enter it manually again in your wireless network application or the windows wireless network configuration depending on what you use to connect and manage your wireless network. So here are a few pointers to follow up on. 1. Check that your desktop or laptop's wireless device is functioning correctly. Delete whatever wireless "profile" that was created. 2. Reconfigure the wireless application based on what you found out from going into your router, also check and see if your router supports this feature whether or not your wireless is turned on, I recommend rebooting after you configure your wireless connection on your computer. 3. Rescan your network. If you have created a new "profile" of your wireless network and the proper configurations have been entered it will connect automatically when it is in range. Points to Note: SSIDs are CASE Sensitive. Home and HOME are 2 different things. I hope this helps. If all else fails, call us.

One more thing I forgot to add is that wireless routers give out IP addresses automatically. These IP addresses usually come with what we call TTL settings, "Time To Live".
Once the IP address live out their lives the router will re new them automatically. What happens when you dont connect to them regularly is that the Routers will usually try to give you a new IP address and the whole process of authenticating you will take place. Sometimes this takes too long that you will find almost impossible to get in.
This has happened to some users that we have worked with.
Cheers Faizul
